Conscious parents: How to make quality time matter with your kids?

Everyone is so busy in this day and age. Running here, rushing there, doing this, doing that – there’s always something to do. But sometimes it’s important to take a step away from the hustle and bustle and spend some time with your kids. So let’s talk about how to make that quality time with your kids really matter.

Your little ones are always going to enjoy time with their parents. They might not always say it, but they do. Just cast your mind back to when you were little. Do you remember how fun it was when your parents would spend quality time with you? Do you remember how it made you feel when your mom or dad would sit and play a game with you or read a book to you? Over the years you might have forgotten the details, but just casting your mind back to those times surely makes you feel all warm and loved inside.

And it’s this feeling you want your kids to have when they’re older and they think back to the time they spent with you when they were young. You want them to think happy thoughts, not thoughts of you being distracted or busy.

Getting to know your kid is an absolute pleasure. They have interests and passions just like adults do, so it’s always worthwhile finding out what they are. If you know they like cars then play racing drivers with them. If they like space then play astronauts with them. If they like art or singing or dancing then paint or sing or dance with them.

If you spend quality time with them and support their passion when they are younger then they will grow to become confident and amazing people that might even make that passion a career. Alternatively if you don’t really understand your kid’s passions and don’t take the time to find these things out if can have a lot of negative effects on them as they grow. Luckily it is through quality time together that you can help set them on the path to success!

And speaking about paths to success, why not try to make that play a little bit educational too? Your kids will look up to you as a role model, and you should use that power wisely! Instead of just playing for playing sake (not that there’s anything wrong with that), you could – every now and again – take the opportunity to educate them about something while you play.

It has been proven that kids learn more when they’re having fun, so you can make that quality time really count by helping expand their minds and broaden their horizons.

An important factor in making sure that you’re making that quality time with your kids really count is making sure that there are no distractions. It’s too easy to pick up your phone and end up playing a game or stick on the TV and end up watching something. Close that laptop and step away from work for a while because it’ll both recharge your batteries AND allow you to properly focus on what should be your ultimate priority.

Quality time can be rare and fleeting, but when you get to spend that quality time with your kid then you really should make it could. However you spend that quality time with your kid, make it count. Life is short and before you know it they will be all grown up and in that sulky teenager phase where it’s not cool to hang out with you. So put down what you’re doing, go find your kid and really make that quality time count!
